Homebuyer Education
Homebuyer Education - Clients receive approximately 4 hours of education. They are educated on readiness and preparation for homeownership; Federal Housing Administration (FHA)-insured financing. All clients are provided home inspection materials and must acknowledge receipt of these documents, which are reviewed by the counselor. The NeighborWorks America’s Realizing the American Dream curriculum is used to cover all of the following topics:
• Decision to purchase a home
• Selection and purchase of the home
• Issues that may arise during homeownership, including refinancing and mortgage default
• Final disposition of the home, including sale
• Homebuyer Education: Free of charge
Fair Housing Workshops: Clients receive approximately 2 hours of education. They are taught the origin of the Fair Housing Act; what classes are protected and what acts are prohibited under the Fair Housing Act; and how to detect housing discrimination as well as remedies available.
